Principal Planner or Senior Planner

Under the general supervision of the Planning Director, the Senior Planner performs a variety of routine and complex administrative, technical and professional work in current and long-range planning. The Senior Planner has a solid understanding of local and statewide planning principles and policies and has the capacity to carry out a variety of complex planning tasks. The Senior Planner can also manage projects along with a team of county staff and consultants. Specific duties include: responding to inquiries from the public; accepting and processing applications for quasi-judicial and legislative actions; making presentations to the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners; leading special long-range planning projects; and share administrative tasks. The Senior Planner may function as the Decision Maker in the absence of the Planning Director.
