What You Need to Know About OAPA's New Election Process for 2022

We once again find ourselves at the beginning of another OAPA election season. In order to better respond and engage with the Oregon Planning Community during the election process, the OAPA Board recently opted to not participate in the national APA election system. In opting to not participate in the national election process, the OAPA Board adopted an interim process for one OAPA election cycle. We will then evaluate and decide to continue or return to the national process.

The adopted process is as follows:

May-August: Recruitment for open positions, and submission of nomination forms.

September: Candidate information, biographies, campaign statements, will become available.

October: Candidates forum and "Meet-n-Greet the Board" event at OAPA State Conference in Pendleton.

November: Elections held via electronic voting.

December: Announcement of successful candidates, and their onboarding.

January 2023: Assumption of office.

The OAPA Board and Election Committee hope this updated format better fits Oregon’s needs especially by providing an opportunity to engage with candidates and the Board during the State Conference. Please stay tuned to future newsletters announcing available offices up for election this year, board interviews, and more ways to engage.

If you have any questions or are interested in running for a position, volunteering for committee, please do not hesitate to contact OAPA@OregonAPA.org.
