  • Review and evaluate land use proposals and building permits for compliance with Federal, State and local rules and regulations.
  • Perform professional research and writing related to current and long-range planning programs, special projects and studies.
  • Assist in revising existing land use and related ordinances.
  • Enforcement of all laws and ordinances governing zoning and land use.
  • Provide land use related customer service.
  • Prepares reports, plans, designs, and implements specific goals expressed in the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Ordinance, Land Division Ordinance, Parks Master Plan, Transportation System Plan, Urban Renewal Plan, and individual neighborhood plans.
  • Assist with the development, management, and implementation of the Urban Renewal Plan. Takes the lead on Urban Renewal projects as assigned.
  • Assist with the development, management and implementation of economic development programs and projects. Coordinate with Federal, State and local agencies.
  • Create and maintain project maps and data using GIS software, review for wetlands and floodplain.
  • Provide technical support to the Planning Commission.
  • Ensure compliance with all conditions of approval as stated by the Planning Commission.
  • Write grants to support city sponsored programs and projects.
  • Coordinate with the local Council of Governments and County Planning Department.
  • Write staff reports as needed.
  • Perform other related work and special projects as required.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees, elected officials, supervisors, citizens of our community, clients and others.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of current developments within the field by attending conferences, reviewing technical reports and journals, and meeting with other professionals.
