RFQ - OAPA Equity Coordinator

The role of the OAPA Equity Coordinator will include the following: 

1.  The Equity Coordinator will work across the Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association’s (OAPA) committees and with the Board of Directors to institutionalize and center diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies into OAPA’s programming, advocacy, and operations. This will include assisting with: 

  • The OAPA Strategic Plan Update to help define DEI as relevant to OAPA and commitment to associated principles. 

  • Developing an organizational equity framework to help OAPA implement DEI initiatives, including establishing performance metrics and a dashboard

  • Prioritizing and implementing key DEI recommendations from previous listening sessions with the OAPA membership and BIPOC planning community  

  • Supporting the DEI Group, including updating its charter, work plan and increasing membership and representation

2.  The Equity Coordinator will provide DEI subject matter expertise to OAPA’s Officers, contract staff, Board and Committees in order to: 

  • Support and coordinate DEI training to build capacity internally for the OAPA board and committee members; and, externally in conjunction with other committees. 

  • Provide expert advice and feedback to integrate DEI into OAPA’s practices, policies and programs in a coordinated fashion and improve the organization’s culture. 

3.  The Equity Coordinator will support the Membership Engagement Committee to:

  • Create supportive spaces for planning-related affinity groups within OAPA and help to strengthen relationships with university faculty liaisons of color and students of color leaders in planning representing such membership. 

  • Establish and nurture relationships with sister chapters, community organizations that represent historically marginalized groups, planners of color, and others for shared learning, continued growth and support.

  1. Experience driving organizational change to center equity in OAPA’s policies, programs and practices? 

  2. Experience centering equity in a polarized political environment while helping develop legislative and advocacy priorities.

  3. Experience in developing and providing equity training programs across different platforms, audiences (planners, policymakers, educators), and community contexts ?

  4. Experience in nurturing and expanding relationships with BIPOC groups, communities and organizations and building sustaining coalitions to support equitable planning policy work?
